Tony Peirce makes chairs, tables and other fine furniture in his workshop Windsor Heritage for the discerning customer using 18th century tools and craftsmanship
Artisan Profile

The lowly chair is one of the most important attributes that a home or cottage can offer its owners or guests. Tony Peirce of Windsor Heritage has been making Windsor Chairs since 2000. Tony comes by his passion for chairs and furniture making honestly. His grandfather was a master craftsman who owned a furniture factory near Coaticook during the 1930s and his great-great grandfather made chairs in England. It was a birthday present 17 years ago of a chair making course that inspired his current passion of making what he believes to be the most comfortable style of chair that is made today.

Whereas the back and back leg of a traditional chair are one and the same, the legs and back of a Windsor chair attach to the seat. This enables the chair maker to modify the angle of the back independently of the legs, making the Windsor chair extremely comfortable. Each chair is meticulously “made to measure” to meet needs of each client.

Whether it’s for the bedroom, dining room, front veranda or office, all chairs are made by hand to fit his client’s needs using 18th century tools and craftsmanship. Tony also builds custom made tables and other fine furniture and offers a one-on-one chair making course in his workshop in Stanbridge East. His Windsor chairs and furniture enhance homes and offices in Canada, the United States and England. Windsor Heritage is open by appointment and will be open for demonstrations in May 2017.
